Ebony Jasmaine Gilbert (McBride) was born to Donna McBride and the late Fenton Bowers, on February 18, 1979, in Jersey City, New Jersey.
She attended P.S. #15 as a child. She was also a faithful member of the Boys & Girls Club during that time. There she became a participant in the Big Brother, Big Sister program. There, she met her Big Sister Kathleen McNeil who afforded her the opportunity to attend St. Anthony’s High School. During her time there, she was a member of the Friars Girls Basketball Team.
Ebony completed one year of college in Ohio before deciding to return home to NJ, where she worked part time in retail.She then relocated to Daytona Beach, FL in 2001. She worked several jobs, such as banking, owner of an antique store, and as a taxi driver. She later opened her own taxi business called Diamond Taxi. She was the first African American to own their own taxi company in Daytona Beach, FL.
Ebony met Jarrett on the Black Planet dating site in December 2007. They dated for seven years before physically meeting in February 2014. He proposed to her in March 2014 and they became one through marriage three months later on June 23, 2014. Jarrett then joined Ebony in the taxi cab business until it closed. They then opened a consignment store until they left Florida and relocated back to New Jersey. Ebony had a real passion for business and refused to work for anyone. She would always say, “I’m not working for nobody, except myself”!
Ebony gave her life to the Lord at the age of 18. She lived by the word of God and studied it diligently. She attended and studied Theology at The Calvary Christian School in Daytona Beach, FL. She later became a Prophetess. She loved the Lord and she loved her family. She got more joy out of giving to others, than receiving.
Ebony Jasmaine Gilbert departed this life on November 25, 2024. She leaves to mourn her Husband-Jarrett Gilbert; her mother- Donna McBride, her dad, the late Fenton Bowers, two Grandmothers -Leola Inman (who raised her) and Emma Armstrong , Her Grandfather - Flander Brunson; Four brothers - Danny Mackey, Fenton Harvey, Wa’Dell Harvey, Craig Harvey; Three sisters- LaTeisha McBride, TaKeema Harvey; and Portia, Five Aunts- Danielle Inman, Linda Bowers, the late Janice and Sheila Bowers, the late LaNora O’Neil; Two uncles- the late Robert Inman (Venda) and Jason Brunson (Delshay); Ten first cousins -Shyquan Singletary, Quanna, Sharonna, Simone, and Shakila Inman, Curtis and Brian Bowers, Jasmine, Simone, Amber, and Justin Brunson; Three special childhood friends- Quadirah Roberson, Melonie Wesley (Mcleod) , and Excel King; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
